NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks surged to session highs Friday after Bloomberg reported European Central Bank President Mario Draghi was working to reach consensus on new measures to ease the region's debt crisis. Bloomberg reported the measures under consideration include bond purchases, an interest rate cut and a new long-term refinancing operation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +1.66% rose 229 points, or 1.8%, to 13,117.2. The S&P 500 index SPX +1.96% climbed 27.46 points, or 2%, to 1,387.48. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +2.19% advanced 64.5 points, or 2.2%, to 2,957.74.
